Perhaps my most critical and resounding success as your elected Davis County District Attorney is hiring incredibly talented people with integrity, professional skill and good judgment. I support them and allow them to exercise what I hired them to do: use skill and sound judgment when making decisions that impact human lives. The trust is reciprocated as evidenced by the fact I have been encouraged to run again and none of these very capable highly skilled competitive attorneys have voluntarily chosen to oppose me. However, because I have the best interests of you, the citizen of Davis County and your families foremost in my mind, I have asked my Chief Deputy, David Cole, to also run for Davis County Attorney. David has a wealth of experience in the state and federal systems as a trial attorney, administrator and even defense attorney. He rose to a senior level position at a major office in Chicago before I recruited him back to Davis County. This office must continue the incredible positive energy and momentum we have and be led by someone with experience and judgment. Someone who has actually been in the trenches and who has earned the respect of the defense bar, office prosecutors, investigators and victim advocates. The work done and decisions made on a daily basis cannot be left to someone who has no idea what the staff is doing, addressing and dealing with because they have never done it themselves.
You cannot, with any degree of credibility, advise, assist, or even discipline when needed, an attorney, investigator or victim advocate when you have zero experiential clue as to what they do or how they do it legally, ethically and procedurally. You cannot have a high school kicker quarterback an NFL team. It is imperative that the leader of this office is actually qualified and not an individual who can't qualify for even an entry level County Attorney I position. I am not afraid of hiring attorneys who are very capable themselves of being the elected head of the Davis County Attorney's Office. I want them here in Davis County representing the interests of this community.
