Would The Davis County Sheriff Endorse A Candidate To Lead That Office (Sheriff) Who Just Barely Graduated From Peace Officer Training (POST); Who Has No Executive Or Personnel Experience; Who Has Never Been On The Road; Never Handled A Case Of Their Own; Or Never Made An Arrest?
The Davis County Attorney's Office doubles as a District Attorney's Office in function and responsibility. It is the most important and maybe the largest law office in Davis County. Even though we are arguably understaffed by NDAA and ABA standards, we get the job done at an Nationally recognized professional level. In order to assist, I prosecute serious cases myself. If you desire a replacement, it must be someone capable of prosecuting an intense caseload of serious felony matters on day one. A simple inexperienced administrator will burden staff prosecutors tremendously, which is a morale and/or budget issue as to address the over-work issue, you will need to get the County Commission to fund another full-time experienced felony litigator. The elected County Attorney must lead by example and share the caseload, including screening cases, Brady issues and litigation.
This Is Not A Job For The Untested And Inexperienced. To Give You Another Legitimate And Qualified Alternative - If You For Some Reason Want To See A Change From My Exemplary Award Winning Performance On Your Behalf - That Choice Is Absolutely and Clearly David Cole. There Is No Other Legitimate Or Realistic Alternative.
Because I have the best interests of you, the citizen of Davis County and your families foremost in my mind, I have asked my Chief Deputy, David Cole, to also run for Davis County Attorney. David has a wealth of experience in the state and federal systems as a trial attorney, administrator and even defense attorney. He rose to a senior level position at a major office in Chicago before I recruited him back to Davis County. This office must continue the incredible positive energy and momentum we have and be led by someone with experience and judgment. Someone who has actually been in the trenches and who has earned the respect of the defense bar, office prosecutors, investigators and victim advocates. The work done and decisions made on a daily basis cannot be left to someone who has no idea what the staff is doing, addressing and dealing with because they have never done it themselves.
You cannot, with any degree of credibility, advise, assist, or even discipline when needed, an attorney, investigator or victim advocate when you have zero experiential clue as to what they do or how they do it legally, ethically and procedurally. You cannot have a high school kicker quarterback an NFL team. It is imperative that the leader of this office is actually qualified and NOT an individual who can't qualify for even an entry level County Attorney I position, but IS someone who understands the application of the State and Federal Constitutions in the civil and criminal context. Someone who has great relationships and earned mutual respect with law enforcement, yet who is not afraid to make tough decisions and even stand up to the pressure of the rare rogue police officer and /or prosecutor.
I am not afraid of hiring talented attorneys who are very capable themselves of being the elected head of the Davis County Attorney's Office. David Cole is the most experienced among them and has a very high legal IQ. I will tell you more about David and his stunning success prosecuting child predators, pornographers and other serious cases over the next few weeks.
I want these attorneys here in Davis County representing the interests of this community.
If you have not already done so, please review all of the information on this website, as well as that of my opponent Mr. Samuel Knight. You will have a clear understanding of the vast difference in experience, knowledge, accomplishment and judgment. The honors and awards I have earned on your behalf objectively demonstrate you can vote for me with confidence. To understand more about Mr. David Cole, please see above on this ANNOUNCEMENTS page.
CAMPAIGN DONATIONS: Ask yourself this vital question - Is it a good idea for your elected prosecutor to solicit and take money ($) from people while pursuing the job? Is Mr. Samuel Knight willing to be compromised and conflicted by soliciting and accepting campaign donations? Or has he decided it is good politics to not solicit them publicly and have you contact him personally? A donation box was, for days, the first thing you encountered on his political website. I am not willing to allow that to happen to me or this professional law office. I disavow campaign contributions and will not accept them. See more about why this may be a critical distinction on this site. If he is elected, my opponent may have to conflict out cases as a result of soliciting and/or taking money. I am a professional prosecutor, not a fundraising politician. The legal, ethical and practical ramifications are significant.
My opponent, Mr. Samuel Knight, initially gave notice of gathering signatures for a run at County Commission, not County Attorney. The County Attorney's Office should not be a political springboard to elected positions having to do with community organizing. The County Attorney's role is to lead your professional law office. That means making difficult life impacting decisions and taking positions based on fact and law, not political fundraising or posturing. I have no plan to run for any other office - ever.
